MASTER
STEPHEN
CHUN

Stephen Chun is a lifelong martial artist, devoted husband, father, and community servant—born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and now happily settled in Decatur. As the founder and owner of Chun’s Martial Arts Academy (opened in April 2025), Stephen pours his heart into a school built on discipline, respect, and the belief that every student can discover their best self.

From his very first taekwondo class at age five to stepping onto the mats as a teenage instructor, Stephen’s journey has been marked by both perseverance and humility. Fresh out of high school, he answered a calling to train at Kyung Hee University in South Korea—a world-renowned center for martial arts—chasing his dream of one day qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics. Along the way, he competed in national and international tournaments, collecting lessons far more valuable than medals.

Stephen remained undefeated in competition throughout the Southeast and proudly represented the U.S. abroad—competing in South Korea and Mexico. Among his proudest competitive achievements was winning gold at the Pan American Championships, a milestone that reflected not only technical excellence but years of disciplined training and personal sacrifice.

As a father himself, Stephen deeply understands what matters most to parents: a safe, healthy environment that helps their child grow—not just physically, but emotionally, socially, and mentally. Chun’s Martial Arts Academy is built to be exactly that kind of place. More than an after-school activity, it’s a space where children develop confidence, character, and a sense of responsibility—where they learn how to get back up when life knocks them down.

What sets the academy apart isn’t just Stephen’s lifelong devotion to the martial arts or his technical mastery—it’s the way he teaches the art. Grounded in humility, discipline, and mutual respect, his instruction is intentional and purpose-driven. Every student is known by name, encouraged with care, and challenged to grow in a way that fits their unique potential.

Since opening the academy, Stephen has been deeply grateful to witness students who began as five-year-olds grow through every belt rank and life stage—even cheering them on as they graduate high school. He counts their dedication as some of his proudest accomplishments.

At home, Stephen shares six joyful years of marriage with his wife, Jessica Park, and delights daily in the laughter of their 2½-year-old son. Outside the dojang, he serves as a shepherd and lay leader at Here and Now Church, finding fulfillment in guiding others on their spiritual journeys. When he’s not teaching or ministering, you’ll likely find him casting a line by the water’s edge or exploring Georgia’s woodlands with family and friends.

Through every kick, every class, every moment of mentorship, Stephen remains profoundly thankful—for the teachers who guided him, for the students who inspire him, and for the grace that carries him forward.
